The Earthquake Relief Fund for Orphans (ERFO) was established
in Boston, Massachusetts in 1990 after a massive earthquake resulting in more
than 35,000 deaths devastated the Guilan and Zanjan provinces of Iran. ERFO
is a non-governmental, non-religious, charitable organization registered in
the United States of America and recognized under section 501(c)(3) of the
Internal Revenue Code as a non-profit entity.
ERFO’s primary mission is to aid the children who have
become orphans as a direct result of earthquakes, and support them until they
reach the legal
age of 18 (see our methodology).
To date, we have supported nearly 500 children orphaned by earthquakes in
Zanjan, Guilan, Ardebil, Quaenat, Birjand, Shahrekord,
Qazveen and Hamadan regions of Iran. The majority of these children after
reaching the legal age, have married, started small businesses or pursued
higher
education.
ERFO relies solely on
tax-deductible contributions of benevolent individuals and corporations,
along with the donated time and efforts of its dedicated officers and volunteers,
to conduct its activities. As such, 100% of the donations received by ERFO
are distributed to depraved orphans.
On behalf of all the children benefiting from the ERFO’s
programs, the Board of Directors extends its deepest gratitude for your contributions.
We hope that with your continued support ERFO will be able to reach more Iranian
orphans,
and help them live better lives.
